in my opinion, this is good design.
TOMS shoes was announced as the cooper-hewitt national design center's People's Design Award. it's a great company founded by Blake Mycoskie who began the shoe company based around the traditional 'alpargatas' shoe. the company matches every shoe purchased and donates a pair to a child in need. they have this philosophy of
"you buy a pair of TOMS and i give a pair to a child on your behalf." Blake Mycoskie
how great is that.
not only do i find the philosophy inspiring, but i also find the shoe exciting. simple, utilitarian, designed well. no frulls, just a well crafted shoe.
